Through Articles, School Profiles and Industry Interviews, you’ll get the information you need to find the right school, get the most out of it and fulfill your dream of making video games for a living
Hi! I’m Matt.
When I was 7 years old I decided I was going to make video games for a living. Probably to the detriment of my high school social life, I was laser focused on this task: each class, elective and hobby was specifically chosen to help me fulfill this goal. Once out of high school I arrived at a fork in the road. I knew I wanted to make games, but it wasn’t obvious what I should do next: get a degree in Computer Science? Go to college for 3D animation? Was there even a school for designing games?
In the end it all worked out. I went to school for 3D and then Classical Animation, and I’ve had a great career so far working my way up to Art Director and Producer at some of the best companies in the business. Each year I go out and visit Industry Nights at local game schools, and I keep seeing the same mistakes and poor decisions that could have been avoided. I’ve also met kids who dream of making games but don’t think it is a realistic goal, or don’t know where to start.
My goal is to help you make some good choices for further education, help you get into a great school, and assist you every step of the way. However, I need your help to do it: participate, comment or ask questions, and share this content with your friends.
